An important message from candidate Ron Nelson
I love Geelong. I was raised and educated here, and I am passionate about fulfilling the potential and opportunities that lie ahead for our City.
During my 40 years in Geelong, I have been extremely active in the Geelong community and have a long track record of community service. This year I led the fight to save Highton Library, fought for local residents on bad planning decisions and represented neighbours to install drainage improvements to alleviate flood risk. I am now advocating and supporting local traders regarding Council’s future plans in both Highton and Belmont shopping strips.
I have loved supporting local sporting clubs, and playing for my local cricket and football clubs for many years. I have also been privileged to be involved with many wonderful charities and service clubs such as Give Where You Live, Beyond Blue, Relay for Life, Geelong Sustainability Group and Rotary. Such involvement has instilled in me a deep connection and love of Geelong, and a real understanding of the issues facing local residents and small businesses.
My drive for action and local understanding is supported by my experience as a former chef, small business owner, work with the Department of Defence and my current role in supporting people with disabilities. With such experience, I know how to get things done compassionately, efficiently, effectively, on time and on budget.
I have consistently delivered on my promises to our community, but there is much more work that still needs to be done.
I pledge to work tirelessly for you and for our community to ensure our essential needs are met reasonably and economically, and that Council sticks to its core responsibilities and priorities.
